What Is Single-Incisión Laparoscopic Surgery?
Single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) is a method of performing bariatric surgery. While traditional laparoscopy requires several incisions in different areas of the abdomen, our board-certified bariatric surgeon can complete your surgery through just one small incision in or around your belly button.
Popular bariatric procedures like sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass can be performed with the SILS technique.
Benefit From the Advanced SILS Technique
Minimally Invasive
With our advanced SILS technique your entire bariatric procedure can be completed through just one incision, making this laparoscopic surgery minimally invasive.
Shorter Recovery
When compared to open surgery or traditional laparoscopy, patients can expect a shorter recovery time, less pain and discomfort, and a lower risk of surgical infection with the SILS technique.
Less Scarring
Bariatric procedures in the past required several incisions in the abdomen, meaning several scars. The SILS technique’s single incision can often be hidden in the belly button. Many patients are able to show off their results without worrying about hiding scars.

Our Unique Considerations
Am I a Candidate for Surgery?
Candidates for bariatric surgery using the SILS technique include those who:
Have Tried Other Weight Loss Methods
Before considering a single incision laparoscopic procedure, patients should first try more conservative methods of weight loss, like diet and exercise. If you’re not achieving healthy weight loss with non-surgical methods, then you may be a good candidate for a laparoscopic procedure.
Are Healthy Enough for Surgery
Aside from their weight, patients must be healthy enough to safely undergo and recover from surgery. Though you can minimize your risk of complications by choosing a board-certified bariatric surgeon like Dr. Carlos, being healthy enough for surgery is important, too.
Meet BMI Requirements
Patients who have a BMI of 35 or higher with a weight-related medical condition like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnea are often good candidates for bariatric surgery using the SILS technique. Patients with a BMI of 40 or higher also make good candidates.

How SILS Works
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR LAPAROSCOPY
Your entire bariatric procedure can be completed through just a single incision, making this laparoscopic surgery minimally invasive.
General anesthesia will be administered to keep you comfortable and unconscious throughout your laparoscopic procedure.
Dr. Carlos will make a single incision in your belly button.
Your bariatric surgeon will insert the laparoscope. With this laparoscope, he will be able to see the treatment area. He will also insert surgical tools through the same incision to perform your surgery.
Alterations will be made to your digestive tract, so your body can achieve healthy weight loss.
The laparoscope and surgical tools will be removed, and your incision will be sutured closed.
Recovering From Your Surgical Procedure
AND MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR RESULTS
Get Plenty of Rest
Though laparoscopic surgery is minimally invasive, you should still prioritize rest in the days after your procedure. Most patients can return to their regular activities within two days, but we recommend taking one week off of work to fully recover.
Abide by a Special Diet
Patients will have to abide by a special liquid and soft food diet in the weeks following their surgery, but can gradually add solid foods back into their diets. Most patients are back to eating regular food within six weeks after their surgery.
Make Lifestyle Changes
Once you’ve completely healed from your laparoscopic surgery, you’ll have to commit to making some lifestyle changes. A healthy diet and a regular exercise regimen will help you lose healthy weight and keep it off.
Our experienced surgeon uses our facility’s state-of-the-art technology to perform minimally invasive techniques that maximize results and reduce recovery time
