SADI-S

We offer advanced bariatric surgery options like single anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S).

SADI-S is a powerful weight loss solution that was developed to simplify the complex but effective surgery known as the duodenal switch.

Vive Bariatrics in Tijuana, B.C., Mexico, is a prime destination to have weight loss surgery and an outstanding medical tourism experience.

SADI-S SURGERY and Its Advantages

The Procedure

SADI-S surgery begins with one of our board-certified surgeons removing the majority of your stomach and reshaping the remainder into a compact pouch, which is rerouted to a lower point on the small intestine. The bypassed part of the small intestine then serves as the biliopancreatic limb, which continues to provide digestive juices. When food leaving the stomach enters the new junction with the small intestine, it is combined with digestive juices before traveling a shorter route to the large intestine.

The Purpose

The SADI-S procedure permanently reduces your appetite, limits the amount of food you are able to eat, and reduces the number of calories your body absorbs. Successful surgery leads to greater weight loss than a sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass alone, and a 70% reduction in fat absorption. The results of a SADI-S procedure can also lead to the remission of diabetes, helping patients to achieve a dramatically improved state of health.

The Comparison

SADI-S requires just one rerouting point, compared to the two necessary in a traditional duodenal switch. This makes SADI-S significantly less complex than the duodenal switch, resulting in less risk of surgical complications, less risk of side effects, a shorter procedure time, and a shorter recovery time. However, SADI-S cannot achieve the same level of weight loss results as a duodenal switch. Depending on your weight, the duodenal switch procedure may be recommended.

Duodenal Switch versus SADI-S

Duodenal Switch versus SADI-S

Duodenal Switch — The Duodenal Switch is significantly more complex, involving the creation of both a biliopancreatic limb that carries digestive juices, and an alimentary limb that carries only food.

SADI-S — SADI-S achieves powerful results with the use of a single rerouting point. In this procedure, the alimentary limb and common channel (where food meets digestive juices) are the same.

SADI-S Results Are Significant

Studies have shown that SADI-S can lead to a loss of 20% of your excess weight within three months of surgery, and nearly 100% of excess weight loss after 2 years.

Candidacy for SADI-S

AND OTHER BARIATRIC SURGERIES

Our expert team evaluates several factors to determine your candidacy for bariatric surgeries like SADI-S, gastric bypass, and gastric sleeve. These key factors include:

Some people are simply unable to achieve weight loss through diet and exercise alone. Oftentimes, genetic factors may be working against them. Weight loss surgery should only be performed if natural methods have been attempted without success.

Body mass index (BMI) is important for determining which weight category you fit. A BMI over 40, or being more than 100 pounds overweight, would make you an ideal candidate for bariatric surgery. You can receive your BMI estimate by using our calculator below.

A patient with co-morbidities and a BMI of at least 35 can be a good candidate for bariatric interventions like SADI-S or gastric sleeve. These co-morbidities include conditions like type II diabetes, heart disease, and sleep apnea.
