Alberto Carlos is board-certified as a bariatric surgeon in Mexico and the US, also heads the bariatric surgery team at Vive Bariatrics. Dr. Carlos began practicing in 2015 and is one of the most experienced bariatric surgeons in Mexico. He graduated with honors from the University of Sonora Mexico, is certified by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is an active member of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity in the U.S. Dr. Carlos is also specially trained in laparoscopic surgery trauma, emergency surgery, and is certified in Life Support by the American Heart Association.
Aside from his extensive background and credentials, Dr. Carlos truly cares about all his patients. He is there for them throughout their entire weight loss procedure. Gastric Bypass
Gastric bypass is one of the most popular bariatric surgeries that results in maximum weight loss and can even be used to help treat type 2 diabetes. Gastric bypass helps you dramatically lose weight in two ways. The first one is by decreasing the size of your stomach, which limits the amount of food you can eat. The second one is through bypassing a portion of your small intestine, which limits the number of calories you can absorb.
Mini Gastric Bypass
This form of bariatric surgery is similar to gastric bypass in that it means it still changes the amount of food you can consume and restricts the number of calories you can absorb. However, mini gastric bypass only requires the intestine to be reconnected in one place rather than two. This is typically suitable for patients with a BMI over 35.
Gastric Sleeve
Gastric sleeve surgery, also known as sleeve gastrectomy, is another effective weight loss surgery that yields dramatic results. This surgery is best for morbidly obese patients with a BMI greater than 40. During the gastric sleeve procedure, your bariatric surgeon will remove a large portion of your stomach, but unlike gastric bypass, gastric sleeve does not alter your intestines. The reduced size of your stomach limits the amount of food you can consume, making gastric sleeve surgery a popular option for our bariatric patients.
SADI-S
Single anastomosis duodenal-ileostomy with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S) is a laparoscopic procedure that was originally created to simplify the complex surgical technique of a duodenal switch. Similar to gastric bypass, SADI-S is also a restrictive and malabsorptive surgery. In SADI-S, your bariatric surgeon will reduce the size of your stomach and removes a portion of your intestine. Unlike a duodenal switch, SADI-S removes less of the intestine, which increases the number of nutrients you are able to absorb after this bariatric procedure.
